DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER LIKA MEETS THE COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL

Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia responsible for implementation of the Ohrid Agreement and Political System, Mr. Hazbi Lika together with the Secretary of State, Mr. Faton Ahmeti, today (01.02.2018) welcomed in a meeting the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Council of Europe, Mr. Nils Muzhinieks.
Initially Deputy Prime Minister Lika informed Commissioner Muzhinieks about the flow of governmental processes and the concrete steps taken in the area of improving relations. He highlighted that the approve of the law on the use of languages in the Assembly is an indication that this government is determined to move forward towards integration and consolidation of communities within the state.
In parallel, the interlocutors expressed the importance of improving relations with neighbor countries, which helps to relax inter-ethnic relations in the country and reflects the citizen's contribution to expediting the road to Euro-Atlantic structures.
In continuation, Mr. Muzhinieks presented his analysis in the sphere of education and the importance of learning each other's languages, pointing out that interaction between communities does not mean a loss of national identity.
In this regard, Mr. Lika also highlighted that the unity of the various interethnic communities is essential and only in this united way we will become part of serious competition in the region and Europe.
