Hazbi LIKA


Mr. Hazbi Lika was born on 19 April 1972 in Tetovo.  He is an Albanian politician in the Republic of Macedonia and serving as parliamentarian (2002-2003 and 2014-2016), Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs (2003-2005), Mayor of Tetovo Municipality (2005-2009) - highly important mandate known for great and positive changes in the city of Tetovo. He completed primary school in his hometown, whereas he started his high school at the technical school in Tetovo and continued it in Kacanik.  Since the beginning of his education, he has been known for open requests and prominent in organizing movements that enable teaching in Albanian language.  Therefore, since the youngest age, he was imprisoned and mistreated by the communist regime at that time.  After his release from prison, he continued and finished his education in Kacanik. He finished his higher education at the University of Tirana (1998) at the Faculty of History and Philology- Department of Albanian Linguistics and Literature.

Mr. Hazbi Lika is known for participating and undertaking political and military movements on the rights of Albanians in the Republic of Macedonia and the independence of the Republic of Kosovo. Immediately after his graduation in 1998, with the onset of the Kosovo Liberation War, he became one of the first soldiers to respond to call of freedom. As a soldier in the Kosovo Liberation Army in Dukagjini’s region, he is distinguished for his work and efforts by remaining loyal to the army until the liberation of Kosovo.

Considering the need to advance the rights of Albanians in Macedonia, in 2001, together with Mr. Ali Ahmeti and other prominent activists, they established the National Liberation Army. During this period Mr. Hazbi Lika was known by the nickname "Commander Chela". The improvement of the status of Albanians in Macedonia and the Ohrid Framework Agreement are a result and production of this war. Mr. Hazbi Lika, as an important figure of Albanian politics in Macedonia, is among the first to begin implementing the Ohrid Framework Agreement. In 2002, after the war in Macedonia, he appeared as founder and as important political power in the Democratic Union for Integration. In the period 2002-2005, Mr. Hazbi Lika was elected as Head of the Branch for the Tetovo Region, whereas from 2005-2009 he was elected Head of the Branch for the City of Tetovo. Since the founding of the Democratic Union for Integration, he is a member of the Central Presidency, while in the period from 2009-2015, he takes the function of the Organizational Secretary.


On 30.05.2017, Mr. Hazbi Lika is elected as Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia in charge of implementation of Ohrid Framework Agreement and Political System.
